On November 5, the Dubai Design District hosted the presentation of Modern History - a collaboration between the brand Art de Vivre and French designer Pierre Gonalons. The event, held as part of Dubai Design Week, brought together architects, gallerists, designers, and other members of the creative community.
A key source of inspiration for Pierre Gonalons in creating the collection was the coffered ceilings of the 17th century - exquisite works that sit at the intersection of architecture and art. These ceilings can still be viewed today in Parisian palaces, such as the Hotel de la Païva on the Champs-Élysées.
The handwoven textiles of the Modern History collection give these ceilings a new interpretation. Pierre succeeded in transforming their graphic patterns and sculptural reliefs, giving them a contemporary expression through strict geometry, a restrained color palette, and a soft yet expressive texture.
The Dubai presentation was not just an introduction to the new collection but an immersion into its artistic context: guests witnessed how historic French motifs can take on a modern voice in carpet weaving while preserving the depth and emotional resonance of the original inspiration.
In December, the Modern History collection will be on exhibition in Moscow.
